The Garlic Co. continues its aggressive invasion of retail after 30 years of focusing only on foodservice and institutional customers.

The Bakersfield, Calif.-based grower-shipper is about to launch a new line of peeled garlic — conventional and organic — in vacuum packed 3-ounce pouches, said Corinne Pettit, retail sales manager.

Making the new line unique is that each recyclable, resealable plastic pouch contains six individual half-ounce packages. The Garlic Co. calls them recipe ready, Pettit said.

“We found that half-ounce of garlic is a nearly perfect fit for most recipes,” she said.

All of the peeled garlic in the new line is California grown, and the vacuum-packed pouches provide unusually long shelf life, Pettit said.

Shipping is scheduled to begin in mid-October, but visitors to The Garlic Co.’s booth at the Produce Marketing Association’s Fresh Summit 2010 Oct. 15-18 in Orlando, Fla., will get a sneak preview.
