Fresh Express, Salinas, Calif., was awarded the Black Pearl Award for corporate excellence in food protection and quality.

Fresh Express, owned by Chiquita Brands International, Cincinnati, was recognized by the International Association for Food Protection, according to a news release.

The association honors one company with the Black Pearl Award for efforts in advancing food safety and quality, according to the release.

Fresh Express was recognized for its high standards of food safety protection, according to the release, leadership in food protection and encouraging the goals of outstanding food safety.

The Black Pearl Award will be officially presented to Fresh Express at IAFP’s annual meeting Aug. 1-4 in Anaheim, Calif., according to the release.

Past recipients of the Black Pearl have included Schnuck’s Markets Inc., 3M, Ecolab, DuPont, Walt Disney World, Kraft Foods, Darden Restaurants, Albertson’s and H-E-B.
