(July 22) Fresh Express LLC, Salinas, Calif., will host a research conference to report its findings from research projects it funded related to E. coli in leafy greens.

The conference is set for Sept. 11 in Monterey, Calif.

Fresh Express originally earmarked $2 million to fund nine research projects to provide prevention strategies for E. coli in leafy greens after the 2006 E. coli outbreak linked to spinach.

Michael Osterholm, director of the University of Minnesota’s Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy, and the voluntary chairman of the Fresh Express Blue Ribbon Scientific Advisory Panel, is scheduled to speak.

Other panel members include Jeff Farrar of the California Department of Health Services; Bob Buchanan of the Food and Drug Administration; Robert Tauxe of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; Bob Gravani of Cornell University; and Craig Hedberg of the University of Minnesota.

The conference fee is $100, and the deadline for registering is August 10. Reservations can be made by calling 800-421-0640.
