LA JOLLA, Calif. – Whitney Conner, the reigning Georgia Watermelon Queen, was named the 2011 National Watermelon Association Queen Feb. 26.
Conner was crowned at the annual awards banquet, the concluding event of the national association’s annual three-day convention.
Conner, 21, recently graduated from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, Tifton, Ga. She is the daughter of Ronnie and Debbie Conner of Abbeville, Ga.
As National Watermelon Association Queen, Conner succeeds Jessica Southard of Florida.
Other finalists included Alabama Watermelon Queen Kimberly McCay, Florida Watermelon Queen Shelley Allen, Illiana Watermelon Queen Sylvia Crowder, Mar-Del Watermelon Queen Parris Travers, North Carolina Watermelon Queen Madelyn Varner, South Carolina Watermelon Queen Meredith Boozer and Texas Watermelon Queen Mariana Perez.
