(July 31) Grimmway Farms, Bakersfield, Calif., hopes its new, high-graphic organic lettuce packaging will provide its retailers more success in merchandising.

The packaged organic lettuce, under the Cal-Organic Farms label, features artwork on both sides, which allows for vertical or horizontal display, said Todd Linsky, director of organic sales. This will allow retailers to more easily promote the product, he said.

The bags also carry Price Look-Up and Universal Product Code numbers.

“We hope it gives those retailers that are looking for a high-end quality product and a high scan rate the opportunity to succeed,” Linsky said.

The new bags were introduced near the end of July, which followed about six months of research and development. This is the first time Grimmway has packaged its lettuce.

In addition, the company’s new romaine, green leaf and red leaf lettuce packaging helps prevent commingling, as the bags create a sealed environment, Linsky said. Grimmway’s lettuce carries the U.S Department of Agriculture organic seal.
