Rick Shade, a prominent member of the California avocado industry, has been elected to the board of directors of Index Fresh Inc., Bloomington, Calif.

Shade, a third generation grower-shipper, is the owner of Shade Farm Management and the immediate past board chairman of the California Avocado Commission, Irvine, according to a news release.

“He (Shade) brings great experience to the board with his broad background as a grower, farm manager, pest association manager, and as chair of the California Avocado Commission (CAC),” John Grether, chairman of the Index Fresh board, said in the release. “I greatly admired how Rick provided leadership to the CAC during a time of crisis. We are confident he will be a huge asset to the growers, shareholders and management of Index Fresh.”

In addition to owning and operating the farm management firm, Shade grows avocados and lemons in Santa Barbara County. He replaces Judge Charles Froelich on the Index Fresh board.
