Industry support makes charity tournament a success

Inc., Bakersfield, Calif., participated in the Paul Cappelluti & Judy Powell Charity Golf Tournament April 26 in Madera, Calif.The tournament raised $24,000 to Nancy Hinds Hospice.

MADERA, Calif. — Fresh produce industry members, some from as far away as Italy, turned out in force April 26 for the 16th annual Paul Cappelluti & Judy Powell Charity Golf Tournament.

The tournament attracted nearly 120 participants. Proceeds from this year’s event were approximately $24,000, said Heather Blicha, Stellar Distributing. All proceeds were donated to Nancy Hinds Hospice, Fresno.

The contingent of East Coast participants was among the biggest in memory, said Kurt Cappelluti, sales manager of Stellar Distributing Inc., Madera.

Among those making the trip west were Luca Antonietti, Novafruit SRL, Genova , Italy; Kenny Jones, Jones Global Trading, White Plains, N.Y,; Kenny McGinnis, The Oppenheimer Group, Tampa, Fla.; John Birch, T.M. Kovacevich International Inc., Philadelphia; Mario Masellis, M.L. Catania Co. Ltd., Toronto; and Michael Rodgers, from the Philadelphia office of C.H. Robinson Co. Worldwide.

It was an all California team, however, that walked away with the best score.

Members of the winning team were Edge Dostal of the Fresno office of Chiquita Fresh North America, Bob Bulawsky of Banner Fruit Co., South San Francisco, Jerry Scharton of Sierra View Sales Inc., Fresno, and Robbie Johnson of the Fresno office of DLJ Produce Inc., Industry, Calif.
