Coosemans Boston recertified for GAPs

Coosemans Boston Inc., Chelsea, Mass., recently completed recertification for good agricultural practices, said Maurice Crafts, salesman.

The company also has added fresh juices from Florida for its retail and foodservice customers, he said.

 

Infinite Herbs adds warehouse space

Infinite Herbs LLC is opening a 12,000-square-foot warehouse at the Boston Market Terminal in Everett, Mass. — space the Peter Condakes Co. Inc. recently had vacated, said Camilo Penalosa, vice president of business development and partner with Miami-based Infinite Herbs.

“We’re going to have a warehouse, cold rooms and offices, and two docks in front and two in back,” Penalosa said.

The expansion is expected to be completed this summer, Penalosa said.

It will increase the herb and vegetable supplier’s square footage from its current 8,000, Penalosa estimated.

 

Lisitano Produce beefs up sales staff

Chelsea, Mass.-based Lisitano Produce Inc. hired two employees, said Frank Lisitano, president.

Tom Rennie, a 15-year veteran in produce sales in Boston, started as a broker with the firm April 1, Lisitano said.

“He buys direct and sells,” Lisitano said. “He does very well out of Canada with hothouse tomatoes, a full hothouse category. He’s been a nice addition.”

Kim Sanford, who has been in the produce business at the New England Produce Center for more than a decade, now handles the Western vegetable deal, including lettuce items and cauliflower, Lisitano said.

She joined the company in early April.

“We’re trying to grow and expand. We’ve been selling a tremendous amount of roma and grape tomatoes and my regular veg line — cucumbers, green peppers, eggplant, zucchini, summer squash, green beans,” Lisitano said.

 

New England market recycles

The New England Produce Center, a 40-acre produce terminal in Chelsea, Mass., has launched a recycling program, said Walter Campbell, the market’s third-year general manager.

 

Peter Condakes shifts to Chelsea

Peter Condakes Co. Inc. has moved part of its warehouse space in the Boston Market Terminal in Everett, Mass., to Condakes’ space in the New England Produce Center in nearby Chelsea, Mass., said Peter John Condakes, president.

The company vacated offices at the Everett facility, as well, he said.

The company made the move in March, he said.

The company remodeled four bays that it now uses at the produce center, which gives it a total 12 of there, Condakes said.

“It’s still not quite enough space for us, so we’re still maintaining space in the Boston Market Terminal also,” he said.

 

Ring Bros. revamps South Dennis store

Ring Bros. Wholesale, based in South Dennis, Mass., which operates two retail outlets — one in South Dennis and one in Cambridge, Mass. — is remodeling the South Dennis store, said Ed Ring, owner.

“We’re giving the whole store a complete makeover, probably adding 1,000 square feet, a juice bar, a salad bar, food bars,” he said.

The $1 million project, which also includes new lighting and floors, should be done by June 1, he said.

The company, which has about 100 employees, runs its wholesale operation at the South Dennis location, Ring said.
