Adjacent to a New Jersey Turnpike exit 15 miles from its former South Hackensack, N.J., location, the 60,000-square-foot-operation includes 47,000 square feet of refrigeration.

The building doubles the space of Auerbach’s former operation and doesn’t break the cold chain from truck unloading to reloading, said Paul Auerbach, president.

The plant gives Auerbach eight times as much refrigerated area, he said.

The building includes modern docks that feature automated levelers for improved food safety and efficiencies, modern packaging equipment, different temperature zones and updated food safety processes, Auerbach said.

“We have been planning this for a couple of years,” Auerbach said.

“We found a place and it took almost a year to set up. The cold chain is maintained the second the truck hits the dock and when it leaves the dock. As we’re moving rapidly towards a lot more Baltimore and Philadelphia business, we are ideally situated for service in this area that serves the whole Northeast.”

In other news, Deborah Fernandez, who was a saleswoman for a fruit and nut company, joined Auerbach in sales in the fall.
