Nickey Gregory Co. LLC has added or promoted a number of staff members in sales and purchasing.

In March, produce veteran Blair Greenhill joined the Atlanta-based wholesaler as director of purchasing, a new position.

Greenhill worked a dozen years for the Eden Prairie, Minn.-based C.H. Robinson Worldwide Inc.

Greenhill was an Atlanta-based sales representative who oversaw the company’s southeast produce division, which also includes Miami; Tampa, Fla.; and Puerto Rico.

He also worked in Miami before returning to Atlanta as C.H. Robinson’s produce site manager and was later regional category manager for melons.

“I’ve enjoyed my time at Nickey’s thus far learning even more of the wholesale, warehousing and distribution side of the business, which I touched (on) at C.H. Robinson but not to the extent I’m getting to here,” Greenhill said.

“It’s challenging and making me into more of a well-rounded produce professional all while getting to experience a private family company coming from the ranks of a Fortune 500 publicly-traded one in C.H. Robinson.”

In January, Nickey Gregory made these promotions:

  • Scott Chapman was promoted from sales manager to vice president and general manager;
  • Johnny Gregory, vice president and general manager, was promoted to executive vice president;
  • Jonathan Gregory, operations manager, was promoted to operations manager and vice president of southeast vegetable purchasing; and
  • Shaun Gregory, warehouse manager of Nickey Gregory’s tomato facility, was promoted to operations manager.

Additionally, late in 2013, Vicki Gilbert, who was vice president of administration, was promoted to vice president of food safety, and Marianna Skrine, who worked in accounting, is now vice president of administration.

“The appointments will help us,” said Nickey Gregory, president and owner.

“We went for a decade when we didn’t get a lot of young people in the produce industry. It’s like we’re catching up. It’s making our staff younger, which means people will be here for a long time to come as we grow.”

The staff’s enthusiasm for growing themselves in the produce industry is evident, he said.

Nickey Gregory distributes produce to retailers, foodservice purveyors and other wholesalers in a 750-mile radius of Atlanta, which includes Miami, Louisiana and parts of Kentucky and Virginia.
