Edward G. Rahll & Sons schedules safety audit
Edward G. Rahll & Sons Inc. in Jessup, Md., plans to complete a Global Food Safety Initiative audit in the fall.
The distributor has been preparing its 30,000-square-foot warehouse for the audit, which is scheduled for early October.
Improving the warehouse on the Maryland Wholesale Produce Market in Jessup has taken two years and the improvements should soon pay for themselves, said T.J. Rahll, operations manager.
G. Cefalu & Bro. Inc. to expand warehouse
G. Cefalu & Bro. Inc., Jessup, Md., plans to expand its warehouse capacity.
G. Cefalu, the produce distributor, and Capital Seaboard, its foodservice jobber, have outgrown their operations, said Sal Cefalu, owner and director of Jessup-based CGC Holdings, the parent company of G. Cefalu & Bro. Inc. and Capital Seaboard.
It plans to add about 10% to its 52,000 square feet of operations that sits on four acres near the Maryland Wholesale Produce Market in Jessup.
The addition on some additional property Cefalu owns should help provide overflow to help in a few missing areas, Cefalu said.
Keany Produce Co.hires three sales staff
Keany Produce Co., Landover, Md., has added to its sales staff.
Neil Hecht, who use to sell premade sandwiches and salads for a catering company that supplied foodservice operators, is now in sales covering Richmond, Va.
Eric Rolander, who previously worked in photocopier sales, handles Washington, D.C.; Arlington, Va.; and Annapolis, Md., sales.
Matt Messina now works as a Keany Baltimore salesman.
Keany also promoted Blair Ryan, who had worked as a Keany a territory marketing associate, to sales.
Ryan began her role as a Baltimore and Eastern Shore representative during the winter while the others started in the past year, said Kevin Keany, president.
Maryland Food Center promotes manager
The Maryland Food Center Authority has promoted its market manager.
Rose Harrell, who has been with the organization since 1993, was named director of facilities in February.
The authority owns and operates the Maryland Wholesale Produce Market and the Maryland Wholesale Seafood Market in Jessup.
Harrell started as an administrative assistant for the seafood market’s offices before becoming an assistant to the authority’s deputy director when market management was consolidated in 1995.
She later advanced to projects administrator before becoming the authority’s market manager in 2009.
