C&C Produce, Kansas City, Mo., has added three new staff positions, said vice president Nick Conforti.

In April C&C hired Chris Shea to head its locally grown procurement efforts. Shea was previously with Good Nature Family Farms, Bronson, Kan., which is a coalition of about 150 growers who provide locally grown produce to the Kansas City metropolitan area.

Also new at C&C Produce are Juan Vasquez, who is heading up sales of traditional Hispanic produce, and Nicholas Conforti, son of the vice president and head buyer for the company’s Hispanic program.

The elder Conforti said C&C’s sales in the locally grown category have tripled in the past year, driving the company’s need for Shea. A growing number of independent Hispanic retailers in the region spurred the company to increase its focus on that sector in the past three months, he said.
