After staff settled into Capital City Fruit’s new 83,000-square-foot facility late last year, company officials realized their growing business needed additional staff, said Brendan Comito, chief operations officer.

Increased dock capacity and truck traffic showed the need for a transportation manager, so the Norwalk, Iowa, company hired Marc Newman for the new position.

The company also hired two produce supervisors, Deb Griffin and Amber Fergus, and two produce salesmen, Ryan Gay and Mike Schmitt.

In the front office, Capital City Fruit added an accountant position, filled by Nathan Johnson. The company also hired Lyndsay Childers to fill an open assistant’s job in the human resources office.

Comito said the company also has completed its transition to compostable tray packs. All of Capital City’s tray packs are now made of the compostable material that is less expensive than plastic.
