Having acquired West Central Florida Produce, Tampa, Fla., in August, Market Fresh Produce executives plan to continue growing the company’s reach with additional merger and acquisition deals that are already in the discussion phase.
Mike Kemp, senior director of business development for the Nixa, Mo.-based Market Fresh, said the addition of a business development unit earlier in the summer will help with expansion efforts.
Three new staff members are the heart of the development unit. They are Steve Ford, Hannah Harris and Katie Wallace.
Market Fresh, which offers a full assortment of tomatoes, is seeing significant growth with other commodities, Kemp said.
“While tomatoes continue to be our largest volume category, our sweet potato and sweet onion programs have grown exponentially this past year primarily due to the consistent quality and supply in some tough market conditions,” Kemp said. “The introduction of our specialty potatoes last fall has also been very well received at retail.”
