With distribution points at its headquarters in Ravenna, Ohio, and a second distribution center in Norwalk, Sirna and Sons Produce already was one of the prominent players in the state’s foodservice produce business. This year, the fourth-generation family-owned company got even bigger.
Sirna formed a partnership with Cincinnati-based Lasita & Sons, giving it a third distribution point.
“With our merger with Lasita in Cincinnati we can now cover the entire state of Ohio, and our distribution footprint now goes into six states,” said president Tom Sirna, whose company delivers to health care facilities, restaurants, hotels, country clubs and institutions throughout Ohio, western and central Pennsylvania, northern West Virginia, northern Kentucky, and eastern Indiana with a fleet of 86 trucks.
Sirna said customers were asking the company to cover an increasing amount of business, and often “it was a matter of getting all the business or none.” He said with only the company’s two northern Ohio facilities it was not cost efficient to cover the entire state and it was difficult to make delivery windows.
“The merger sets us up for future growth with good management in all of our locations,” he said.
Lasita retained its own management in the Cincinnati location, Sirna said.
Sirna and Sons previously expanded with its second location in Norwalk in 2001, and it remodeled and expanded that facility in 2010. The company opened its new Ravenna headquarters in 2006. Sirna said the company’s facilities recently earned GFS Primus Food Safety certification with a better than 90% rating.
Sirna and Sons also has made additions to its staff. Anthony Sirna, the son of the company’s president, became the first of the family’s fourth generation to come into the business after graduating from Ohio State University last year. He is a salesman for the Cleveland area. Nello Delgreco joined the company’s sales staff this year and is responsible for Pittsburgh and the surrounding area.
