(July 20) The Kroger Co., Cincinnati, has appointed Michael Ellis as president of the company's Fred Meyer supermarket/department store division, effective immediately.

Ellis was most recently group vice president for grocery, drug, general merchandise, pharmacy and advertising with Kroger but was at one time senior vice president of Portland, Ore.-based Fred Meyer's food group.

“Mike built his career with Fred Meyer, and we are excited to have him lead the division," said Kroger president and chief operating officer Don McGeorge.

The Fred Meyer chain consists of 128 stores in four Western states.
