(May 12, PACKER WEB EXCLUSIVE) Mann Packing Co. Inc. plans to donate $1 to charity for every carton of Broccolini it sells to Maggiano’s Little Italy during the Italian restaurant chain’s May promotion with the Make a Wish Foundation.

This is the fifth year Maggiano’s has partnered with the foundation, which grants the wishes of seriously ill children. The chain, which has 42 locations in 23 states, said in a news release it donated more than $180,000 to the cause last year.

This month the chain is offering an “Eat a Dish for Make a Wish” menu and will donate $1 to the charity for each item ordered. The promotional menu includes halibut seared with lemon, pepper and parsley and served with mashed potatoes and Broccolini.

“We’re honored to be part of this promotion,” Gina Nucci, Mann Packing’s director of foodservice marketing, said in a news release. “Maggiano’s is a great partner of ours, and this is a fresh idea that makes donating easy.”

The Eat a Dish promotion started May 1 and continues through May 28. Several other items on the promotional menu also feature produce:

  • Shrimp scampi — Marinated shrimp sautéed with roasted garlic, tomatoes and fresh basil and served with garlic bread.

  • Spinach gnocchi with herb chicken — Italian spinach and potato dumplings sautéed with herb chicken, zucchini, squash and tomatoes and served in a lemon and basil cream sauce.

  • Fresh berry tiramisu — This dessert includes blueberries, blackberries and strawberries.

Maggiano’s customers also can contribute by purchasing the restaurant’s gift cards. For every $25 sold, the chain will donate $1 to the charity.

Maggiano’s is owned by Dallas-based Brinker International.
