Earl’s Organic Produce, San Francisco, marks its 25th anniversary this year.
The company is renovating a 30,000-square-foot facility next to its present location with a plan to move into the space Jan. 1, owner Earl Herrick said.
Currently in the development space, Herrick said he is excited about the move, which will increase the company’s space by about 10,000 feet.
The new location will include a larger office space, expanded cooling capabilities, and a banana ripening room. It will also include a new integrated warehouse management system that will be fully compliant with traceability requirements.
“We’re really looking forward to expand and better serve our customers,” Herrick said.
The company also hired additional staff.
Ethan Abendroth started Aug. 13 as director of quality control.
Abendroth is an industry veteran who worked with Herrick 15 years ago and who has gained valuable experience with other produce companies over the past decade, Herrick said.
On June 18, Michele Glascoe was hired as director of human resources. She has her certification as a senior professional in human resources.
Michele Smith-Jefferies, a newcomer to the produce industry, started Aug. 28 as accounts receivable specialist.
Herrick said the company enjoys a relatively mature organic market in the Bay Area.
