The Potato Lover’s Contest is in its 23rd year, marketing manager Jamie Bowen said.
This promotion encourages retail stores to put up an Idaho potato display, focusing on Potato Month (February) sales. It runs from Jan. 27 to Feb. 28, with each display required to be up for one week.
The commission provides point-of-sale materials, and the display must include both fresh and dehydrated potatoes.
Cash prizes are offered for the store and category manager.
“It’s a win-win for both parties,” Bowen said.
Several annual resources for various industry members are also available again this year.
The 2014 retail marketing book recently was published and features retail marketing programs and consumer poll progress to help boost Idaho potato sales.
The commission also offers calendars for the industry and chefs.
The industry calendar goes to shippers, processers, media other industry professionals, and consumers who are interested.
“The chef calendar is completely for foodservice and it includes various conference dates, as well as recipes and information that research has shown chefs find useful,” Bowen said.
The yearly directory for the upcoming year is also underway.
