The company’s Lil Snappers brand, packaged in collaboration with Sunkist Growers, Sherman Oaks, Calif., is a popular kids’ item.

“We’ve had really good results, said Roger Pepperl, marketing director.

The company is introducing bosc and red pears to the line this season, which will start in a few weeks.

In November, Sunkist will begin packing their citrus-themed Lil Snappers packages, according to Pepperl.

Pepperl says the company, which has always had small apples, has seen a dramatic increase in interest since adding the kid-focused marketed to the product.

“People need to be marketed to,” he said.

In the future, Pepperl says the company is working to give the characters names and personalities.

“We’re working on how we can do more with social media and the website. It will be a fun way to start communicating with parents and kids, and to have the characters deliver those messages,” he said.

Pepperl said the Lil Snappers line is a great way to introduce kids to more varieties than they might otherwise be exposed to.

“Apples are one of kids’ favorite snacking foods, so we need to introduce them to all of these different kinds of apples because it helps us build a different consumer,” he said.

For example, Pepperl said children often really enjoy tart apples, which parents might not usually buy because they prefer something sweeter.

In addition, by purchasing the Lil Snappers product for their kids, parents might try something they otherwise wouldn’t have.

“It can even expose parents to something new,” he said.
