Del Monte building Ontario facility

Coral Gables, Fla.-based Del Monte Fresh Produce plans to open a multi-purpose facility this year in Oshawa, Ontario.

“This facility will be the home of one of our most sophisticated fresh-cut fruit and vegetable processing plants in our system and is designed to service all channels including conventional and nonconventional retailers, supercenters, convenience stores, foodservice and many other outlets,” said vice president of marketing Dennis Christou. “We will also be utilizing the facility as a banana ripening center as well as a forward distribution center for a variety of our fresh products.”

According to a story in the Toronto Star, the 108,000-square-foot facility will be Del Monte’s first facility in Canada and will be a hub for the processing of fresh-cut fruit and vegetables and distribution across Ontario and Quebec.
