Work has been completed on a two-year project that has doubled the packing capacity at Index Fresh Inc., Bloomington, Calif., said Dana Thomas, president and chief executive officer.
The company removed old machinery, packing and bagging lines, replacing them with top-of-the-line technology, he said.
“We replaced 20-plus-year-old machinery with brand new machinery,” he said.
Work included installing a new sizer, replacing the bin delivery system and bin washer, replacing all packing tables, upgrading volume fillers, adding bin fillers, reworking the carton delivery system and upgrading the weighers.
The two-phase project got under way in 2008 and was completed last winter, in time for this season’s large avocado crop, Thomas said.
