The Idaho Potato Commission donated $50,000 to sponsor RODS Racing, an organization of athletes who raise money to help find homes in the U.S. for orphaned children with Down Syndrome from other countries.
More than 40 athletes plan to compete in more than 224 marathons, triathlons and five Ironman races in 2013 for RODS Racing, founded by Brady Murray, whose son was born with Down Syndrome.
The commission’s donation of $50,000 will cover the adoption costs of two orphans, according to a news release from the commission. This year, the RODS Racing athletes will wear jerseys with the commission’s logo. Promotional materials will include the athletes discussing the nutritional value of Idaho potatoes.
