Potatoes Marketing

PEI board offers vacation giveaway

Canada’s smallest province and largest potato producer is offering Canadian and northeastern U.S. potato lovers a chance to win a culinary vacation on Prince Edward Island next summer.

Now in its second year, the Pack Your Appetite retail promotion is sponsored by the PEI Potato Board, the department of agriculture and Tourism PEI.

“We realized we’re all marketing to a similar target market with a similar message,” said Kendra Mills, marketing director of the Charlottetown-based board, “whether we’re trying to get people to come here for a vacation or try our food products.”

Last year, more than 6 million bags of marked PEI potato bags were placed on store shelves throughout Canada, and two families won an island adventure.

“We were thrilled with the response,” said Greg Donald, general manager of the board.

“Potato sales in Canada have been up double digits, with significant increases in key markets.” he said. “And we received more than 114,000 entries from consumers in all 10 provinces and three territories.”

Consumers can go to the website www.packyourappetite.ca until March and enter the unique pin number found on bags of PEI potatoes.
