(March 24, 11:40 a.m.) Kathy Means, vice president of government relations for the Produce Marketing Association, Newark, Del., has been named to the 2008-12 Agricultural Technical Advisory Committee for Trade in Fruits and Vegetables. Appointed by agriculture secretary Ed Schafer and U.S. Trade Representative Ambassador Susan C. Schwab, Means is one of 34 nationally chosen committee members, according to a news release.

The committee, which is part of the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative’s Trade Representatives Agriculture Advisory program, provides technical information, advice and recommendations to the secretary of agriculture and the U.S. Trade Representation on produce-related matters. The committee helps ensure cooperation between the federal government and the private sector on agricultural trade issues, according to the release.

Means joined the association in 1989 and is responsible for government and public affairs, food safety and security issues, and self-regulatory programs.

Prior to this she was a member of The Packer staff for nine years as a reporter and editor.
