(July 18, 1:32 p.m.) Alain Paré, former director of central produce procurement for Metro-Richelieu Inc., Montreal, left the company July 11 and is scheduled to join Groupe Connexion Group, Joliette, Quebec, in a new position as executive director July 21.

“It’s been a fast-growing company, so I’m expecting Alain to really be my right arm,” said Daniel Bérard, president and founder of Groupe Connexion Group.

Before his promotion to director of central produce procurement for Metro-Richelieu in 2006, Paré was director of special projects for the supermarket company. He spent 17 years in the produce division for Metro-Richelieu.

Before joining Metro-Richelieu, Paré was a produce buyer for Provigo Inc. supermarkets in Quebec, a Loblaw Cos. Ltd., Brampton, Ontario, chain.

Bérard said he has known Paré for more than 30 years, while he was at Provigo and when he was at Metro-Richelieu.

Paré is active in the Quebec Produce Marketing Association, Anjou, and is a governor and past president of the board of directors, said Sophie Perreault, executive director of QPMA.

Groupe Connexion Group is the holding group for three companies, Danfreight Systems, VegKiss and B&B Gardens, all in Joliette.

Danfreight Systems is a transportation and logistics company that mainly travels to and from the U.S. West Coast and exports broccoli, cauliflower and some bell peppers and melons. VegKiss markets produce grown by B&B Gardens and buys and markets produce in B&B’s off-season.

“Alain will be taking management of the synergy between all three companies,” Bérard said.

Bérard, also a member of QPMA’s board of directors, founded the three companies.

Ghislain Perron, produce director of Metro-Richelieu, said on July 17 that Paré’s former position has not been filled.
