(Dec. 4) Judy MacNeill, wellness director for Alpena Regional Medical Center, Alpena, Mich., will speak on behalf of the Michigan Apple Committee, DeWitt. In a new position, MacNeill will serve as an official nutrition spokeswoman for the committee.

MacNeill is a registered dietician, certified adult weight management specialist and certified diabetes educator. Before her position as wellness director, she was an outpatient clinical dietician specializing in diabetes, cardiovascular and obesity treatment. She also owned a personal training business.

In her position with the apple committee, MacNeill is focusing on a health and fitness campaign in January and February, when many are trying to lose extra holiday weight.

“We wanted someone who would be able to talk with authority about the health benefits of eating apples,” Holly Whetstone, communications and marketing specialist for the Michigan Apple Committee, said.

Currently, MacNeill is promoting the Get Fit With Michigan Apples essay contest, which awards four scholarships to a fitness camp. An entry form for the contest is available at www.michiganapples.com/camp, and entries are panned to be accepted through Feb. 22.
