(Oct. 8, PACKER WEB EXCLUSIVE) The Michigan Apple Association, Grand Rapids, Mich., is sponsoring training workshops for crisis planning and traceability issues.
“Statistics show that 60% of all companies impacted by a food recall or a food safety scare will go out of business within two years,” said Denise Donohue, Michigan Apple Association executive director. “That’s alarming and we must do something about it. Advance planning and training can certainly minimize the risk.”
The first workshop, Crisis Planning & Crisis Communication, is Nov. 12 in Grand Rapids. Communications counselor Gene Grabowski, senior vice president for Levick Strategic Communications, Washington, D.C., is scheduled to lead the workshop; tuition is $1,040.
A second workshop, on produce traceability, is Nov. 13 in Grand Rapids. Gary Fleming, vice president of industry technology and standards at the Produce Marketing Association, Washington, D.C., is scheduled to lead the workshop. Tuition is $110.
