New Jersey Fresh is promoting its peaches by throwing an August Peach Party.
That party will include Aug. 28 peach and tomato tasting sessions at Rutgers Agricultural Research and Extension Center Farm in Upper Deerfield, N.J., near Bridgeton, N.J.
In some places, the state has restaurants and farmers markets working together to showcase peach recipes developed by local chefs, according to a news release.
“We are delighted that the restaurants who created peach dishes in past years for their August menus have met with the success that makes them return,” Santo Maccherone, the promotion council’s chairman said in the release.
“Our peaches are about the best in the country. Our growers work hard to harvest the finest quality, and it’s rewarding to see how much the public appreciates their product.”
According to the council, New Jersey’s 90 orchards that produce 7,200 acres of peaches make it the fourth largest U.S. peach producer.
The council says 19 New Jersey restaurants plan to add peach dishes to their menus for the August promotion.
