New Year’s Healthy Choice campaign gets under way

(Jan. 9) Healthier eating and increased exercise are common New Year’s resolutions, and this year, ConAgra Frozen Foods, Omaha, Neb., plans to help consumers start the year off on a healthy foot.

The company has designed a January promotion built around its Healthy Choice products that will have consumers venturing into produce departments.

According to its Web site, Healthy Choice is offering free fruits and vegetables up to a $3 value once consumers purchase five or more Healthy Choice products. The company kicked off the promotion Jan. 5 with coupons in newspapers nationwide for Healthy Choice-branded items including frozen foods, packaged lunch meats and deli meats, popcorn, soup, ice cream, frozen novelties and bread.

ConAgra launched Healthy Choice products in 1989 after Charles Harper, chief executive officer, suffered a mild heart attack while on a business trip in California. What started out as 10 frozen meal items has grown into a line of more than 200 items.
