(Dec. 3) Origin Organic Farms Inc., Delta, British Columbia, received the Exceptional Innovation Award in the for-profit category at the Canadian Information Productivity Awards gala Nov. 14.

Origin Organic is an organic greenhouse vegetable producer with 42 acres of greenhouse production in British Columbia and California. The company was recognized for its Clean Environmental Organic Technology project.

The Clean Environmental Organic Technology project, which allows the company to monitor and control conditions in its greenhouses and make improvements to its methods.

Part of the system is Origin’s Smart Microbial Process, which produces an all-natural liquid fertilizer from Origin’s own waste materials.

“They are fully aware of conditions in and outside their greenhouses, and collect data to analyze and optimize growing conditions,” Lawrence Moule, director of communications for the Canadian Information Productivity Awards, said. “It is a system that other farms of this nature (organic) have not implemented before.”

Origin Organic produces 15 million pounds of organic peppers, cucumbers and tomatoes annually.
