“Fruits and vegetables are the most colorful items that you can put on your plate,” said Jill Le Brasseur, communications specialist for the Produce for Better Health Foundation. “If you try to fit in some kind of fruit or vegetable from each of the colors every day, that’s one easy way to make sure you’re eating a variety of different nutrients, vitamins and minerals.”
The Produce for Better Health Foundation encourages industry members to promote this year’s theme to educate consumers on ways to achieve better health.
“It’s a great way to take time to remind consumers how important fruit and vegetables are to a healthy diet,” Le Brasseur said.
The foundation suggests industry members use these methods of promoting National Nutrition Month:
- Donate educational materials about the health benefits of eating fruits and vegetables to schools or youth organizations. Find promotional items at www.pbhcatalog.com.
- Get your products approved to carry the logo for Fruits & Veggies — More Matters, a health initiative put on by the foundation. To submit a product for consideration, contact Toni Eaton, production manager for the foundation, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
- Add a link to your company’s website to the Fruits & Veggies — More Matters website at www.fruitsandveggiesmorematters.org.
