(March 13, 5:30 p.m.) Washington lobbyist Tom O’Brien has been named the Produce Marketing Association’s consulting lobbyist.

“I have always liked the group, and I feel it is a great opportunity to work with them more closely," O’Brien said March 13.

“We are pleased to have Tom help represent PMA on Capitol Hill, given his expertise in legislative matters and prolific experience with many facets of the produce industry,” said PMA Vice President of Government Relations Kathy Means in the release.

O’Brien, with the legislative firm O’Brien DC, said he is looking forward to working with Means and PMA’s chief scientific officer Robert Whitaker, who joins the association on April 1.

O’Brien served in state government as deputy director of California Gov. Gray Davis’ Washington, D.C. office, and as associate administrator at the Agricultural Marketing Service, a U.S. Department of Agriculture division.

Earlier this month O’Brien was appointed to USDA’s Agricultural Technical Advisory Committee on Trade in Fruits and Vegetables.
