Carter, for six years the Antigo-based association’s executive director, will join Rosholt-based Bushmans’ Inc. on July 14.
His last day at the association is scheduled to be June 30.
Carter will become Bushmans’ first-ever chief executive officer, said Jerry Bushman, a company owner. The company created the position to free up president Mitch Bushman for customer and new product development and other special projects, Jerry Bushman said.
Carter, who joined the association in 1998 as director of government and grower affairs, will focus on grower relations and overall management of the company, Jerry Bushman said.
Carter said he looks forward to learning a new side of the Wisconsin spud business.
“There’s plenty for me to learn, and I’m looking forward to the new challenges,” he said. “They have an excellent team, and I look forward to working with them. It seemed like a good fit.”
Food safety will be one of the top issues Carter will address with growers, he said.
Jerry Bushman, who was a member of the association board when Carter was hired in 1998, said he admired Carter’s leadership and government affairs skills.
