(July 18) Aldi Inc., a German-based, no-frills food retailer whose U.S. operation (based in Batavia, Ill.) ranks as America's 25th-largest supermarket chain, is in the middle of a national expansion that aims to open 100 stores in 2008, according to The Cleveland Plain Dealer.

The chain, which says its prices are up to 50% lower than other stores, now operates more than 900 stores in 28 states and has estimated U.S. revenues of nearly $6 billion.
