(March 20) Russ Hanlin, senior vice president for sales and marketing of Sunkist Growers Inc., Sherman Oaks, Calif., has been named to succeed president and chief executive officer Tim Lindgren.
The Sunkist Growers board of directors unanimously elected Hanlin at the boardâs meeting March 19.
Hanlinâs promotion to the top post is effective Nov. 1 as the 2008-09 harvest begins, Lindgren said.
âMy last day with Sunkist will be Oct. 31,â he said.
In the interim, Hanlin, who has been with Sunkist for 30 years, takes the title of executive vice president April 1, Lindgren said.
Hanlin began with Sunkist in 1978 as a buyer for Fruit Growers Supply Co., the cooperativeâs manufacturing and supply division. Over the next 15 years, Hanlin had several posts in the Sunkist marketing department before being named manager of domestic sales in 1994, then moving on to director of international sales in 1997.
In 2002, Hanlin was named vice president of international sales and sales operations. He became senior vice president of sales and marketing in 2002, responsible for the sales and marketing of Sunkistâs fresh fruit and licensed products as well as the cooperativeâs interests in Sunkist Global Sourcing and Sunkist/Taylor LLC.
Lindgrenâs departure marks his second retirement from Sunkist. He stepped down as president of Fruit Growers Supply Co. in 2003, but returned to the company as executive vice president in 2006 to oversee the transition when then-Sunkist president Jeff Gargiulo resigned.
Lindgren, 69, was named interim president and chief executive officer upon Gargiuloâs departure. The Sunkist board voted to remove âinterimâ from Lindgrenâs title three months later.
âSunkist growers are grateful to Tim Lindgren for his dedication and inspiration,â said Nick Bozick, board chairman and president of Richard Bagdasarian Inc., Mecca, Calif. in a company news release. âHe came out of retirement to take the helm at Sunkist when we needed him â and he had the vision and the expertise to move Sunkist forward.â
