As a guest of Yakima, Wash.-based Sage Fruit Co. LLC at the Daytona 500, Tim Graas, produce manager for Kansas City, Kan.-based Associated Wholesale Grocers, met NASCAR driver Kasey Kahne, who is sponsored by Sage.

On Feb. 19 Graas met NASCAR driver Kasey Kahne, who drove the Great Clips/Sage Fruit car at Daytona.

Associated Wholesale Grocers is a customer of Sage’s, said Chuck Sinks, Sage’s sales and marketing director.

During Daytona “race week,”Associated promoted Sage Kasey Kahne apple bags at participating retailers, Sinks said.

“They do a nice job promoting our Race Days theme and getting extra sales from those promotions,” Sinks said.

Sage sends customers to NASCAR races throughout the season, Sinks said. This is the sixth year the company has sponsored Kahne, a Washington native.

“It’s working out very well,” Sinks said of the sponsorship. “Several retailers visit the races and use the promotions to drive extra sales when the races are in their regions.”

In addition to Kahne, Sage co-sponsored NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Jennifer Jo Cobb for one of her races at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kan.
