(June 5, 5:08 p.m.) Celeste Settrini earned Ag Woman of the Year for San Benito, Santa Cruz and Monterey counties in California during an annual luncheon held in Soledad, Calif., and sponsored by Ag Against Hunger.

The annual event recognizes women who demonstrate leadership qualities within the local agricultural industry. More than 260 people attended the June 4 event, according to a news release.

Settrini has been affiliated as both member and board representative in numerous agricultural organizations, including Monterey County Agriculture Education, Inc., Produce for Better Health Foundation, United Fresh Vegetable Association and Ag Against Hunger, according to the release.

She is a fourth-generation Monterey and San Benito County cattle rancher.

Settrini is statewide California Women for Agriculture’s first vice president and president-elect in 2010 as well as a member of the Salinas Valley Chapter.

Previous Ag Women of the Year include Margaret D’Arrigo-Martin (2007), Lorri Koster (2006), Mary Orradre (2005), Nita Gizdich (2004), Dorothy Errea (2003) and Kay Filice (2002).

Settrini was not available for comment June 5.
