Castle Rock Vineyards adds saleswoman

Produce veteran Laura Berryessa has moved to Castle Rock Vineyards’ Delano, Calif., office from its sister company, R-J Distributing, Salinas, Calif.

For nearly 30 years, she handled domestic sales and several East Coast accounts for the vegetable brokerage operation, said Jim Llano, Castle Rock Vineyards sales manager.

She will serve a similar role for Castle Rock Vineyards and its grape sales.

“She has tremendous experience, and she’ll bring a lot of her vitality and her go-getter attitude,” he said.

East West Unlimited hires vice president

John Root joined his brother, Steve Root, as vice president of East West Unlimited LLC, Coachella, Calif., this season.

John Root was formerly an agricultural teacher at Rubidoux High School, Jurupa Valley, Calif.

Steve Root is president and chief executive officer.

Fruit Royale opens Riverside branch

Joe Cardenas has joined Delano, Calif.-based Fruit Royale Inc. as sales manager in its newly opened Riverside, Calif., office.

Cardenas, a veteran of the produce industry, brings years of sales experience, particularly with the Chilean grape deal, said Louie Galvan, managing partner.

“He’s a perfect fit for us because he’s down in Riverside,” Galvan said.

During the winter, Cardenas will be able to keep track of Chilean grape shipments arriving at the Port of Long Beach.

During the summer, he’ll be involved in selling San Joaquin Valley grapes.

Jakov P. Dulcich & Sons plans promotions

Jakov P. Dulcich & Sons, Delano, Calif., plans to run three seasonal promotional graphics on its grab-and-go stand-up pouches this season.

Summer Sweet Treat, featuring a beach scene, will kick off the season in July, followed by Hobgoblin during the fall Halloween season and finishing with a Christmas theme around the winter holidays, said Nick Dulcich, co-owner and sales director.

All three colors of grapes will be packed in the bags.

The grower-packer-shipper introduced the pouch bag two years ago at Loblaws. Since then, several other retailers have asked for it.

“It’s been really successful — our customers all like it,” he said.
