Pompano Beach, Fla.-based CarbAmericas Inc. is boosting its asparagus production to better provide customers with coverage from Peru and other growing regions 365 days a year, said Jeff Friedman, the company’s president.
“We’re doing some different things,” Friedman said. “We’re still working with our core of consistent growers, but we’re starting to trend toward year-round supplies.”
CarbAmericas is now partnering with growers in Caborca, Mexico, and in central Mexico to help ensure volumes 12 months out of the year, Friedman said.
“The majority of Mexican asparagus ships to the middle of the country and the west,” he said.
The expanded Mexican program will be overseen from CarbAmericas’ California office, Friedman said.
