Oppenheimer Group names import director
Evan Myers has been promoted to the new position of director of South American imports for The Oppenheimer Group.
In addition to his responsibilities as category manager for stone fruit, Myers now oversees the Vancouver-based company’s strategy for growth in South American products, working closely with category leaders, grower relations staff and grower partners.
Myers joined Oppenheimer in a quality assurance role in 2005. In 2006, he was promoted to category coordinator for grapes and stone fruit, ultimately becoming the category manager, and later category director, for imported stone fruit.
Naturipe updates organic packaging
Naturipe Farms LLC and EarthCycle won an award for best new product last year at United Fresh for their organic berry packaging. In 2014, the business partners plan to improve on it.
The palm fiber container, which is compostable and recyclable, will come with a flow wrap cover instead of a PET lid, said Naturipe marketing manager Kyla Garnett.
Garnett said the flow wrap is recyclable and reduces the amount of plastic needed for the package by 85%.
The updated version of the package is expected to be available in May, Garnett said.
