Coggins Farm and Produce Inc. has constructed a sweet potato curing facility.
For the past three years, Lake Park, Ga.-based Coggins has stored sweet potatoes in existing coolers, but space became limited, and the new facility should improve efficiencies, said Steve Sterling, a salesman for Fresh Link Consolidation LLC, Coggins’ sales agent.
Coggins completed construction in July.
The company harvests sweet potatoes in July and markets them August through early January.
“It’s been a good crop, and we’ve seen good demand,” Sterling said. “Demand has ramped up during the last few years.”
Sterling said he wasn’t sure of volume.
