(CORRECTED July 1) California grapes will see expanded social media marketing support in 2014 that includes the addition of a blogger network and a new Twitter platform.

The California Table Grape Commission plans to increase its activity on two other social media sites.

The network, dubbed “Grape Blogger Bunch,” launches this summer with four bloggers from backgrounds that include farming, nutrition and dietetics, said Jeff Cardinale, vice president of communications for the Fresno-based commission. Besides blogging, through the season they’ll create their own grape recipes for the Grapes from California website, Facebook and Pinterest.

The blogger group will be a focus of the newest social media site for California grapes: Twitter. The handle is @GrapesfromCA. The Twitter also is planned to feature daily recipes, tips and health facts and promote contests.

On Pinterest and Facebook, the season’s first contest for California grapes featured Food Network chef and nutritionist Ellie Krieger. Followers of those pages could win prizes for re-pinning Krieger’s grape recipes. They can also enter a Pinterest contest, which ends in August. Through the season, the Pinterest page will offer beauty and recipe shots on boards featuring snacks, salads and add-ons.

Facebook contests are ongoing. At least once a month, fans will be invited to participate in mini contests where prizes are awarded for responding to a question about California grapes.

The Grapes from California website, www.grapesfromcalifornia.com, was redesigned for 2014 with new ways for users to find recipes including by category, clicking pictures or word searches. It contains nearly 200 recipes plus video tips on planning parties, outdoor grilling and holiday meals with grapes. Fifteen of the recipes are by registered dietitians.
