Peruvian Citrus business updates

Andean Sun Produce hires industry veteran

Chincha, Peru-based La Calera’s U.S. sister company, Andean Sun Produce Co., which acts as the company’s Miami-based sales office to market products exclusively in the U.S., hired Steve Guy to be in charge of sales.

Guy comes to the position with 37 years of produce experience, according to La Calera’s co-owner and chief executive officer, Estuardo Masias.

Fisher Capespan focuses westward

Mark Greenberg, president of Fisher Capespan, St. Laurent, Quebec, said the company plans to keep expanding its presence in the West.

“We’ve been an East Coast-based company, but we’re making heavy, important strides in West Coast distribution from Chile and Peru,” he said.

The company has an augmented sales force on the West Coast and is working to establish product among retailers accessed out of Los Angeles and Texas.

“The citrus season is only beginning but we’re anticipating success. We’ve distributed there in the past and are working to grow that this year,” Greenberg said.

Seald Sweet expands on the West Coast

Seald Sweet International, Vero Beach, Fla., expanded and relocated its West Coast operations with a partnership with Fresh Select in Dinuba, Calif.

This agreement will increase the company’s West Coast presence and overall volume.

The new facility is about 110,000 square feet, with the majority of the space designated for processing and the rest for cold storage.

The company reports that the estimated total annual potential for product capacity is 2.5 million cartons of fresh citrus.

“With this expansion, and our sales offices located within the packing facility, we are better equipped for special packaging, improved quality control and more responsive to customers’ specific needs,” said Kim Flores, marketing manager.
