North Carolina council to sponsor symposium
To foster interest in blueberries the North Carolina Blueberry Council Inc., Atkinson, plans to co-sponsor the 2013 International Berry Health Benefits Symposium, June 18-20 in Charlotte, N.C.
Julie Woodcock, executive director, said the symposium should attract up to 200 leading research scientists and said the group plans to sponsor the blueberry basics seminar.
Wish Farms boosts blueberry acreage
Wish Farms has increased its blueberry acreage.
The Plant City, Fla. grower-shipper increased its total blueberry volume to around 10 million pounds this year, up 50% from last season, said Gary Wishnatzki, president and chief executive officer.
“With the resources we’ve put into forecasting, we are expecting more volume this year than last overall in Florida, a large increase for us as a shipper,” he said.
In addition to Florida, Georgia and North Carolina, Wish Farms grows and ships from Michigan, British Columbia and Chile. The bulk of its volume originates in the South, Wishnatzki said.
