Cal Giant runs smoothie promo
Watsonville, Calif.-based California Giant Berry Farms Inc., is running a summer promotion with Blendtec Blenders.
It is featured around the idea that consumers love to use fresh berries to make smoothies in the summer months.
“We will feature several of our favorite smoothie recipes along with some we have received from our loyal followers,” said Cindy Jewell, director of marketing.
Jewell said the company was still finalizing the prizes for the online promotion in early July but that they expected to offer winners a Blendtec blender.
The campaign is set to run for five weeks, starting July 21.
Jewell said a back-to-school promotion is planned for after the summer smoothie promotion ends.
Fresh Results opens offices
Fresh Results LLC, Sunrise, Fla., recently opened an office in Chile, said Eric Crawford, president.
In addition, Crawford is excited about recently finalized agreements with blueberry growers in Peru that will help the company ship blueberries year-round, with offices in Peru, Chile and Argentina.
“This will give us Peruvian blueberries from September through the beginning of December,” Crawford said.
Gourmet Trading provides recipes
Gourmet Trading Co., Redondo Beach, Calif., partnered with the blog “With Love from the Vine” during its California blueberry season to create summer recipes using fresh blueberries.
“We wanted to show consumers that blueberries can also be used in meals and not just in desserts,” said marketing manager Chloe Varennes.
The idea was to provide recipes for consumers that mimic the restaurant trend of using blueberries to provide sweet and savory dishes.
Recipes included a blueberry pizza and a blueberry barbecue sauce for pulled pork sandwiches, Varennes said.
Naturipe runs berry sweepstakes
Naturipe Farms LLC, Estero, Fla., launched its Just Add Blues promotion July 14, and it will run through month’s end.
The campaign invites consumers to enter the sweepstakes online for the chance to win a $100 grocery gift card and fresh blueberries, said marketing manager Kyla Oberman.
The promotion goes along with the company’s Just Add Blues blogger series with blogs Spoonful of Flavor and Health Smart Living.
“Each blog post will be dedicated to sharing blueberry nutrition, recipes and educational infographics to their audience,” Oberman said.
Oppenheimer growing program
The Oppenheimer Group, Vancouver, British Columbia, is working to grow its berry program, said Nolan Quinn, berry category director.
“We have a lot of exciting things happening for the California strawberry season next year,” he said.
In addition, the company is gearing up for its fresh cranberry season this fall.
“We are excited to do early fresh cranberries from Ocean Spray,” Quinn said.
Oregon commission sponsors shows
The Oregon Raspberry and Blackberry Commission has several events planned to showcase berries for the coming months.
After the Oregon Berry Festival in mid-July, Cat McKenzie, marketing director, said the commission will participate in the Bite of Oregon event, held Aug. 8-10 in Portland.
“We’ll be represented at the chef’s table, with other commodity commissions, and celebrity chefs will be preparing items using raspberries and blackberries,” McKenzie said.
Then, in September, the commission will be a silver sponsor of Feast Portland.
“The top chefs from around the country come to celebrate Oregon bounty,” she said.
