KINGSBURG, Calif. — George Jackson, patriarch of family-owned and -operated Kingsburg Orchards, established the goal of growing, packing and marketing only proprietary varieties of fruit a few years ago, and now the goal is within reach.

For the first time this season, Kingsburg Orchards is marketing a full program of its 50/50 Peach-a-rines, the company’s proprietary peach-nectarine hybrids, said Dan Spain, vice president of sales and marketing.

“We have 10 varieties that will be available from May through mid-September,” he said.

Harvesting of the first of the Peach-a-rines, honey queen, will begin May 7, Spain said. Packing of scarlet queens is scheduled to begin May 20, and three more Peach-a-rines — honey sweet, magenta queen and magenta queen II — should debut in June.

Picking starts for five other Peach-a-rine varieties and is expected to run from July 4 through Sept. 7, Spain said.

Purchased some for your Sugar Tree 50/50 Peaches at Market Street in Plano, TX. The Peach-a-rine is a great hybrid. They are delicious. (We don't have many locally grown peaches this year due to the drought.)
