Chile hass committee works in new markets
The Chilean Hass Avocado Committee is seeing progress in several new markets this year, president Adolfo Ochagavía said.
“A couple of weeks ago, Brazil opened the phytosanitary boundaries to Chilean hass avocados, so we have a big challenge to teach them about the fruit and its versatility in the kitchen,” Ochagavia said.
The committee also is working toward opening Chinese and South African markets to Chilean fruit by the end of 2013, he said.
Giumarra expands distribution in U.S.
Escondido, Calif.-based Giumarra Agricom International is expanding its Chilean avocado distribution and services network across the U.S., with emphasis on the East Coast and Midwest markets in 2013, marketing director Gary Caloroso said.
“Demand is growing at a phenomenal rate in these areas, and an increasing number of retailers are recognizing the value of Chilean avocados,” Caloroso said.
Giumarra provides a full range of services and is cutting transportation costs by bringing fruit into more ports of entry, he said.
