A new Northeast U.S. salesman and an Olympic spokeswoman rank among the recent highlights for the Charlottetown-based Prince Edward Island Potato Board.

Industry veteran Peter Goulet was hired this summer to succeed Charles Walker as the board’s Northeast salesman, said Greg Donald, general manager.

Goulet, former director of produce for Hannaford Bros., Scarborough, Maine, was the Newark, Del.-based Produce Marketing Association’s 2007 chairman.

Goulet, noted as among the first to help define and use category management for fresh produce, retired from Hannaford in 2006 after 32 years at the retailer.

He then formed Saco, Maine-based Pinnacle Sales & Marketing Inc.

Among his other honors, Goulet was The Packer’s 2000 Produce Marketer of the Year.

Goulet isn’t the only new addition to the board. Heather Moyse, an Olympic gold medalist in women’s bobsledding, who is a PEI native, will promote the island’s potatoes as part of a nutritious and balanced diet, Donald said.

In addition to bobsledding, Moyse is a member of Canada’s senior women’s rugby team, and she announced recently that she will add track cycling to her sporting resume, Donald said.

Moyse’s bike will feature the PEI potato logo at international qualifying meets. Moyse also will make special appearances on behalf of the PEI industry.

It is the first major sponsorship for Moyse since she won her gold at the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games in 2010.
