Plant less, Salinas Valley growers suggest

Art Barrientos, vice president of harvesting for Castroville-based Ocean Mist Farms, agreed the industry is overplanted here in most commodities.

“It’s a cyclical thing more than anything,” Barrientos said. “But there is a remedy. As an industry, we shouldn’t plant as many acres as we do. At times we can be our own worst enemy.”
